It’s difficult to believe that in 2024 people in the west are still using communism as an insult. A fear the west installed on its population as a means for war with countries that didn’t align to their dominance and colonization efforts or was it a fear that one element of communism actually means liberation from government?
During a conversation with a friend discussing politics this person said “the Democrats will make us communist!” and my first thought was do you even know what that means? I’m not a Republican or a Democrat, so let me start by pointing this out. Communism is a political idea based on Karl Marx never implemented anywhere in the world. In fact I’d argue that there isn’t one communist country on earth that even exist today, only in name.
Communism has nothing to do with dictators, in fact it’s the opposite and some elements in communism I’m sure regular Americans may even agree with as Communism is very focused on workers rights and a classless society. In fact communism can even support Democracy, also known as Democratic Communism.
This is a large subject, so for the purpose on being on the same page let’s review the basics of communism as follows:
- Statelessness. No more central government. The structure of society is community based.
- Classlessness Society. This is one of the core principals, the elimination of social classes.
- Collective ownership of the means of a production. Instead of individuals owning corporations everything is collectively owned by the community.
- Central Planning. Economic planning is done through the community than market forces.
- Distribution according to needs. Goods and services and based on individual need.
- There is a lot more, but these are core principles. So let me ask you, what government has implemented this? None, but many have implemented parts of it such as socialism. We see this in the United States, “distribution according to needs” such as food stamps and healthcare.
So now that we have a basic understanding of communism what part do you believe was a cause for the United States to invade Vietnam? What part threatened western freedom and the stability of Southeast Asia? The cost was 1 million lives. Nothing in what I listed was implemented anywhere.
The fact is it was never about communism, it was propaganda by the west to make Americans fear of something that didn’t really exist to begin with to justify their wars. It was purely about colonization and the west remaining a world power against countries like China. In fact in 2024, with the issues ongoing with Taiwan I assure you it’s not a humanitarian crises as to why the US intervenes in this conflict, it is because of semiconductors and keeping China confined.
Yet here we are, still shouting communism as if it’s an insult. It’s just a political idea that no country has implemented. It’s in name only. Do you think Cuba wants to go stateless? Of course not. What makes it communist other than the name? Nothing. Dictators and such are the opposite of communism, so let’s stop the fear mongering.
We were led to believe that communism was to fear but communism didn’t invade 13 other countries since the Vietnam war, America and its allies did. So who causes the instability to remain world powers? The west.
“But, but, but Democrats are communist!” No, they just believe in certain parts of it as do Republicans (less government, more freedom).
This article isn’t meant to offend anyone, and it’s purely for discussion. In closing id also like to note that Vietnams idea of communism is rooted in Ho Chi Minh’s writings of anti imperialism, solidarity, Agrarian reform and National Liberation. The goal is to ultimately become a communist society. I have a lot of respect for him and his leadership that led to Vietnams freedom against colonization and imperialism.
